Ok, I'm back on track ( I hope :P)
My sewing mood is firing up and just 2 days ago I made a Shoe Organizer. Inspired by my nasty shoe keeping and all Sewist around the web who are kind enough to share their project online. There are so many version of these so I guess mine's is MummyVin's Version.
Here's how I made it :
 |
Prepare 15 squares to make the pockets |
 |
Sew 5 squares together to make 1 long strap of pockets |
I used 2 different fabric colors, Yellow for the main piece, while Green for the pockets. Cut out 15 pieces of squares and sew 5 pieces together to make the first pocket queue. Do the same for the other 10. Then sew the top raw edges together.
 |
Attach both ends to main piece |
 |
Secure pockets with safety pins |
 |
Top-stitch bottom half while folding raw edges inside |
 |
Top-stitch each partitions to make individual pocket |
 |
When done, it'll look like this ( First Pocket Row ) |
 |
This is how the pocket looks like when opened |
Next, I attached both ends of the pockets to the main piece then used some pins to secure the pockets. This part, I folded each pocket in half then topstitched the bottom half. Doing this, fold about 1cm of the bottom part to secure the raw edges and secure the pocket queue in one go. Next, top stitch each partition to make 5 individual pockets. Do the same for the other pocket queue.
To make the strap, I cut out 2 (1 yellow + 1 green ) long fabric and with pretty sides together, sew the raw edges together. Unfold and press iron the stitches, then fold each fabric in half, iron, and fold both pieces together, press iron again and finally topstitch all edges. Divide the strip to 4 part and pin on top part of main fabric. ( I'm sorry I didn't get all the pictures on this part )
I added some elasctic to the bottom pocket queue to secure bigger shoes.
Take another main piece for the backing. Sew along the raw edges together, ( pretty sides together ) leaving a small gap just enough to turn over the fabric later.
After turning the fabric inside out, iron press entire seams and topstitch along the edges and put in those shoes and slippers inside!
This project is really amazing for people who wants to save more space at home especially apartments. No more bulky shoe rack, it save you money and space too. One more thing, its washable!
You can tie it on a hanger or a piece of stick then just use some nails to hang it over.
Till my next needle and threads.
XOXOXO Michele
