September 17th marks a special occasion on our family calendar when my sister got engaged and everyone celebrated in full joy. The celebration of course, will not end at the end of the day...We are all engrossed to wait for the Big Day to come.
A traditional Kadazan engagement ceremony and blessing afterwards has been planned and on behalf of my family, my utmost gratitude to all for making this day a complete success of blessing.
A significant of our family affairs...
It was said that during the olden days, the groom-to be together with his family and relatives will proceed to the bride-to-be home bringing gifts offerings...
The gifts essentials must include a Sarung (Sarong), Gohong (Hand-Ring/Bracelet), Salapa (Beetel-leaf container, normally in copper) and some Pitunang (monetary gifts).
Nowadays these pre-nuptial ceremony are modernize by the era..

Whatever the gifts are, it was an important traditional way to bear that when gifts are accepted, it is also a good sign of the family acceptance and goodwill indeed.
When both of our family members were introduced, the ceremony proceed with both parties discussing nopung (dowry) for the Big day, an expense to cover for the wedding. Like the olden days, the monetary discussion feature a distinct value where Kirai (Rolled tobacco leaves) were used to substitute monetary denominations and farm animals (mostly buffalo and pig).
Once negotiations are well accepted by both parties, then only she can come out...
Signed and sealed , Rings exchanged, Gifts accepted... and Blessed...
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
So, in the olden days, it was been told that there are strict rules that the Groom to-be and his entourage must leave by 2pm... Gheez, what the heck! poco-poco anyone?
Congrats Sis! Bro, welcome to the family...
