Antenatal Checkups

Now that I already know the drill, I started my antenatal checkups as early as 2 months of my pregnancy. I used to be anemic, so when I go early, it means that I will get my prenatal supplements that I needed early. Normally, mothers are advised to registered their pregnancy before the end of the 3rd month of their first trimester. I thought its best to know what you consume and why, so I made myself busy :

This is normally the full prescription when you get your checkups at all Prenatal Governments Clinics. They will prescribe it to you on every visit.

IRON TABLETS 200mg - Maintain / Increase blood cells count in your body for carrying oxygen for     yourself and your growing baby.

Vit.C / Ascorbic Acid 50mg - To maximize iron absorption

Folic Acid 5mg - Development of your baby central nervous system and avoid birth defects

Vitamin B Complex - Development of baby brain, Organs and nervous system

(If you registered yourself at a General Clinics, the doctor might prescribe you with Obimin - also a pregnancy supplements, yet only "a few" of everything. )

I prefer registering my pregnancy at the Prenatal Government clinics compared to Non-Govt clinics, as from my past experience, these nurses / midwife sure know what they are doing 100%. From Pregnancy to Child Immunization, they are doing a great Job at it.i

Upon registering, I was Interviewed about my wellbeing including my family members. They will provide you a co-op book which includes "everything" from marriage certificate number, to your husband's salary! (this I never understand why)

So, this section covers all my personal details, the clinic details, my THA(LMP) - Last Menstrual Period date, my TAL (EDD) - Expected delivery date, etcs. Notice the box below the cover? It reminds you not to forget to bring yor co-op book for any medical reasons. Even when you are travelling.

Don't just come to the clinic empty handed. well , I did the last time, but over the past years these Govt.Clinics have made registration quite strict. They not only need your IC but also 2 copies of your Marriage Cert , 2 copies of your passport size pic and of course the original documents. The other half of the copies the required is for another blueprint of your co-op book kept by the clinic for their reference. In addition to that, I got my blood & urine tested on the same day.

This is my first check up after the registration, a week later. I was 10weeks and 2 days pregnant. No Albumin/protein or sugar trace in my urine, normal blood pressure and was already 57kg! (Dang?)

Just Blame it on the hormones....
